What Should You Do If Pain Keeps You From Sleeping?

Chronic pain can have many causes from repetitive stress injuries to slip and fall type injuries.  But one of the lesser known causes of chronic pain is lack of quality sleep. In some cases its the chronic pain that prevents sleep and starts a vicious cycle of sleepless nights and pain-filled days.

The reason that sleep is so important is because it is when your body regenerates itself. Muscle and connective tissue heal, hormones replenish, cellular structures are repaired.  So if you are not regularly entering deep, healing sleep the odds your aches and pains from the previous day will be gone by morning are significantly less.

I frequently see cases where shooting pain, numbness or burning pain come on during the night and wake people from sleep. Another common type of case is when someone wakes from sleep with a pounding headache that continues throughout the day leaving the person exhausted and stressed from the pain. Yet another presentation I frequently see is not being able to sleep at all because of deep, achy pain in the spine and neck following a long day at work.

All of these problems have one thing in common.  The root of the pain is in the spine and muscles.  I can’t tell you how many people have experienced much needed relief after several chiropractic adjustments in not only pain but in ability to sleep a full night and wake up feeling more refreshed.

Make no mistake. Chronic pain prevents deep, regenerative sleep and without sleep the chronic pain gets worse and resists treatment more strongly than in someone who is sleeping well.  If pain is keeping you up at night, you owe it to yourself to address any issues in the spine and muscles.  Most people see improved pain and sleep quality in only a handful of chiropractic visits.  To schedule your appointment call 715-246-7500 for the 4 Corners office or 715-265-7500 for the Glenwood City office.  We can also be contacted via the Arvold Chiropractic Facebook page messenger.  Lets get you feeling better!
